Beach Tennis intro

Introduction

Modern Beach-Tennis was born around the 70s on the beaches of the Italian coasts. It was not until 1996 that real beach tennis was born with most of today’s rules.

This sport can be seen as a mixture of traditional tennis, beach volleyball and badminton and today has more than 500,000 players worldwide. There are also international ranking competitions such as ITF BEACH TENNIS WORLD TOUR and Beach Tennis World Championships recognised by the ITF (International Tennis Federation).

Beach Tennis rules

Rules

The rules are a combination between tennis and Beach-Volley so that players must only hit the ball on the volley. The tennis scoring system (0/15/30/40) is used for this game, and the only difference is no advantage but a decisive point in a tie break to win the game. The first team to win 6 games with 2 games away from the other team wins the set.

Rackets

To start, we recommend a light racket between 310 and 340 g. The balance at the head of the racket allows more power for beginners. For materials, a fibreglass racket promotes forgiveness on off-centre hits and allows easier handling.

Beach Tennis ball

Balls

The ball is the same as tennis but differs in its pressure and colour: it is softer to favour fast exchanges. Balls used in official competitions must be approved "ITF stage 2". The colour is usually yellow/orange to make the ball more visible on the sand and under the sun.

Our BTB 900 S is an ITF stage 2 certified Official ball of the Beach Tennis World Championships in 2017, 2018, 2019 and the 2019 ANOC Beach Games.
