With the holidays just around the corner, why not plan an early morning hike to catch the first sunrise of the Lunar New Year in 2023? In addition to checking the weather forecast, it’s also essential to choose a route that will offer uninterrupted views of the horizon. We’ve chosen two routes that are famous for their breathtaking sunrise views: the hike to Ngong Ping Plateau from Ma On Shan, and Lantau Peak, the highest point on Lantau Island.

Hike to 957m at tai mo shan during the year of the rabbit

If you’re looking for a challenge, why not start your 2023 with a hike to Hong Kong’s highest peak Tai Mo Shan during the Chinese New Year holiday? Rising to 957 m above sea level, Tai Mo Shan is one of Hong Kong’s most popular hiking spots and can be reached via a number of different routes. It is also home to the People’s Liberation Army Radar Station, which is situated in a restricted area beyond a wire fence.

From here, the words ‘Listen to the party’s words and follow the party’s direction’ can be seen on the roof of the building. If you would like to catch a glimpse of this popular attraction, we recommend departing from Tai Wo and reaching the summit via Chau Ma Kong and Sze Fong Shan.

Cycle route from sheung shui, yeun long to tuen mun

The new 60 km cycling route from Tuen Mun to Ma On Shan is currently Hong Kong’s most popular cycling destination. Our cycling ambassador Andy has been to test the section from Sheung Shui, Yuen Long to Tuen Mun, which passes a number of popular attractions.

In addition to cycling through Long Valley and enjoying the sunset next to Kam Tin River, you can also take a break at The Boxes shopping centre in San Tin (the Fujiwara Tofu Shop is a popular photo spot). The route is technically challenging in places due to the narrow path and numerous bollards.
