Weight training, cross-training or muscle strengthening: why use a weighted jacket?
The weighted jacket allows you to increase the difficulty and make progress using bodyweight exercises. Do you prefer doing functional movements without holding dumbbells? Do you want to up the intensity of your WODs? Or are you looking to build muscle through precise exercises to complement another sport? The weighted jacket adapts to suit your needs and allows you to improve the results of your multi-joint exercises.
How to use a weighted jacket
The advantage of a weighted jacket is that you can perform multi-joint exercises with the weight evenly distributed between the front and back of the torso. Here are a few ideas for exercises you can do: - Dips to work your triceps, shoulders and pecs. - Pull-ups to build bicep and back muscle. - Muscle-ups to train your entire torso. - But what about your thighs? We recommend doing squats on one or both legs.
How to adjust your jacket in three steps
To adjust it correctly, position the back hooks based on your build: the closer to the centre they are, the tighter the jacket will be at the waist. Next, adjust the straps to fit your rib cage so that it stays in place as you move. Finally, put your jacket on and tighten the waist using the rip-tabs on the front. And for an interruption-free workout, make sure to adjust everything properly before you start
6 kg or 10 kg? We explain:
Your jacket only weighs 6 kg. It comes with four 1 kg plates that you can spread between the front and back of the jacket to make it weigh up to 10 kg. Why offer this range? Because a 6 kg weight is the women's RX for cross-training WODs and a 9 kg weight is the men's RX. It means that your jacket is ready to take you further whether you're strength training, bodybuilding or cross training! The jacket is not designed / approved for loads of over 10 kg.
Here are a few of the performance-related design details:
- The 1 kg plates come with a handle to make them easier to move around. - The jacket's fitted cut stops it moving around as you train. - The straps are elasticated so your jacket stays snug but you can still breathe! - The shoulder straps let you adjust everything instantly during your workouts. - The plates keep things compact so you can get very low when doing press-ups.
Our design team reveals the story behind the 10 kg weighted jacket:
"We started with a truly blank slate for this product. We wanted to offer something comfortable and practical but with its own real identity. It's one of the products our Domyos team could try out for themselves which led to some direct, honest feedback. And it meant we could make a lot of improvements. We then put the jacket through its paces in gyms and at the Domyos Club."
