Technical information

Use temperature

We display the comfort temperatures on all our sleeping bags, tested by an independent laboratory (AITEX) in compliance with European standard ISO 23537-1 from 21/01/2017. The comfort temperature is the lower limit at which an individual is generally in thermal equilibrium and feels neither too cold nor too hot in a relaxed pose (for a standard woman and in normal conditions of use).
Choose your sleeping bag accordingly.

What is the comfort limit temperature?

Limit temperature is the lower limit at which an individual is generally in thermal equilibrium in the foetal position in their sleeping bag, and feels neither too cold nor too hot (for a standard man and in normal conditions of use).

What you need to know about temperatures

A sleeping bag does not produce heat but retains the heat produced by the body. If you are exhausted and cold and you slip inside a cold, damp sleeping bag, it is likely that you will feel cold no matter how good your sleeping bag is! These temperatures therefore depend on the person's resistance to cold (body type, fatigue, etc.), equipment (mattress with ground insulation, etc.), clothing (naked, underwear, etc.) and weather conditions (humidity, wind, etc.).

Tips before getting into your sleeping bag

Dress simply (one layer of clothing is enough). Keep your head, hands and feet warm: use hats, gloves, socks, bed warmers, rubbing, etc. A flask filled with hot water can be used as a hot water bottle (if it can't open by accident!). Contract your muscles (70 % of the energy consumed is transformed into heat). However, you should do this without moving as this can cause draughts of cold air.
To avoid washing your sleeping bag too often, we recommend you use a sleeping bag liner.
