Technical information

WOOL INSULATES AGAINST HEAT AND COLD

Wool has many advantages for climbers, including the ability to regulate body temperature during the climbing and resting phases.
This is based on two principles: Firstly, wool fibres naturally capture air pockets, enabling them to store body heat, thus providing optimal thermal insulation. The air works as an insulating layer, both in summer and winter, protecting against both heat and cold.

WOOL COOLS THE BODY

The second is the evaporative cooling principle. Wool can absorb approximately 35% of its own weight in moisture without actually appearing damp. If the air temperature is warm, the moisture dries more quickly, resulting in evaporation and a cooling effect.

THIS WOOL DOES NOT ITCH

We are using 52% very fine Merino wool. At just 17.5 microns (one micron = one thousandth of a millimetre), the wool fibres are so fine that they are well below the limit at which itching occurs on human skin.
In addition to this, we combined these wool fibres with 38% Lyocell fibres that are very soft to the touch.

WOOL DELAYS THE DEVELOPMENT OF ODOURS

Studies* show that wool tends to neutralise odours. This would be due to the structure of the wool fibre and its ability to absorb moisture.
Indeed, there would be less sweat on the skin. The moisture would be absorbed directly into the core of the fibre and not on the surface. This would enable less sweat to be left on the skin or on the surface of the textile, thus less bacteria and less odour.
In addition, keratin seems to have a tendency to partially destroy bacteria.
