What is the waterproofing of a jacket?
Designed with a coating on the outer fabric to make it waterproof The resistance of a fabric is measured by the height of a water column in mm (JIS standard). The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with a waterproofing resistance of 5,000 mm resists the pressure of a 5,000 mm column of water (Schmerber). Validated in a shower test under 60L/sqm/hour of water which is roughly equivalent to a 2 hour rain shower Test carried out before washing.
What do you mean by taped seams or waterproof strips?
These sealed (or taped) seams are closed with waterproof heat-bonded strips. This tape, which is stuck behind the seams, is essential for making the garment waterproof, given that water can get inside by capillary action (water absorbed by the stitching yarn and/or through the stitching holes).
Fleece material: Insulation provided by air
The fleece component is designed to trap air in the space formed by its texture; this air acts as a natural insulator, keeping the body warm. It is the brushing of the knit fabric that traps the air.
Washing:
1/ Machine wash (30°C): fasten rip-tabs and use mild detergent. Wash jackets and trousers inside out. Loosen the straps and elasticated parts. 2/ Do not fold the garment too much in the machine: may wear out more quickly. 3/ Do not mix clothing types and colours. 4/ Do not use bleach. 5/ Choose a full rinse and gentle spin cycle.
